It has happened to all of us. You buy THE dress of the season for a friend's wedding, secretly knowing that you might outshine the bride. Your gorgeous hair and makeup have you feeling fabulous; but as you arrive, to your horror there are two other girls donning the exact. same. dress.
A little dramatic? Perhaps. But it does happen.
So, how do we solve this little dilemma? By keeping your closet fresh - pairing old items with new ones and knowing how to make an outfit with jewelry, heels or a statement bag. Using your personal style to make each ensemble unique. I thought I would share this humorous, refreshing article from InStyle UK, written by fashion features editor Victoria Moss. It has some great tips -enjoy!
HOW TO STAY ORIGINAL
Don't wear two new things from the same store, from the same season, together. Mix up the new with your existing wardrobe. Pair that how new midi skirt with a top you dragged from the back of your drawer. Then throw on a giant necklace to distract from the faded hue.
When attending a big event, NEVER buy a new dress. At a wedding I went to earlier this year, at least three girls were in the same lace Whistles number. Grim! Always stand by your old favourites - the likelihood of someone turning up in that Clements Ribeiro frock you snagged for a song in the sales five years ago is slim indeed. Freshen up with a sharp blazer and a killer shoe and you'll have a decent chance at upstaging the bride (joke!).
Tweak and add. Change the buttons, shorten or let down the hem. Throw a belt around that dress, wear the collar up on your shirt, turn up your trousers, chuck on a ton of jewellery. The more you work it, the less ubiquitous your "piece" will look. (And the girl sitting next to you on the bus in your blouse will feel very unadventurous having just put it on by itself with some trousers.) We call this bringing in the jazz hands.
